If you’re looking for a romance between two people who have more meat on their bones, look no further! Hearts of Blackmere is the husky Historical Fantasy Adventure Romance series of your dreams! Just look at those covers!

And if you couldn’t tell from the covers, all three books center on the same couple rather than following three different couples in the same world. While I would have loved to have gotten Viv and Jenny’s story, I was more than happy to keep reading about Brandon the Bear and Lady Natalie Blackmere!

Hearts of Blackmere is a tale focused on forgiveness, redemption, and finding your purpose. When we meet Brandon, he’s a fallen champion. He was once the greatest in the guild, but the years have knocked him down a few pegs. He’s not as fit as he once was and his performance has suffered. He’s got a rounded belly and greying hair, but Natalie is immediately taken with him. Brandon isn’t a man to wallow. He knows he’s hit a rough patch, but he wants to do better. He doesn’t want to retire a loser, or get let go, since he uses his winnings to support his aging parents.

As for Natalie, she’s having a rough time running her castle. Her domain is not exactly the most luxurious or prosperous. And on the night that she sneaks out to meet Brandon, she sends the guards away to take care of some bandits, leaving the castle completely unprotected. Needless to say, the bandits took advantage of that, stormed the castle, took her friend (whom Natalie had switched places with for the night) hostage, and killed many people. Natalie is devastated by this and knows she must do better for her people. That doesn’t mean giving up her dream of being a champion though!

So, we’ve got our two plus-size lovers, a dangerous situation, and high stakes! What we also have is a couple who knows how to communicate! Not that they don’t argue or have misunderstandings. But they take a nap then come back together to talk it out. It also helps that Brandon the Bear is more like Brandon the Teddy Bear. This man is just so sweet and soft and caring. Yes, he is huge and strong, and he knows how to use it. But he would never use his strength against anybody. He’s in touch with his feelings! He admits his faults! He’s just so darn cute!

The main plot of Hearts of Blackmere is also great. Like I said, Brandon wants one last shot as a champion and Lady Natalie has dreamed of joining the guild since she was a child. This is both of their times! It was so sweet to watch them train together. They aren’t in competition. They just support and care for one another. In the meantime, there’s also the problem of the attack on Natalie’s castle, which she still must show her people that she’s not aloof. And there’s trouble within in the guild! It’s been Brandon’s home for his entire life. Does he stay? Does he go? How does he fix it and also keep his woman?

I just adored these books and I hope you will too!

"I'm not gentle with you because I doubt your strength, my lady, but because I know the full extent of mine."

Lady Natalie Blackmere has always dreamed of meeting the renowned champions of Aldland, especially the legendary Brandon the Bear. When at last the Grand Tourney comes to Blackmere, Natalie swaps places with a barmaid and sneaks out to follow her dreams. But when bandits besiege her town, Natalie barely escapes with the surviving champions. Alone in the woods with the man she has always admired, Natalie must keep her identity a secret and step up to become the leader she was born to be, if she is to save her people.

Brandon the Bear is a champion that ballads are sung about. Or, he was. Past his prime and struggling with each new tourney, Brandon fears his time as a champion has come to an end. When the fight becomes real, he is determined to save the townspeople of Blackmere and rescue the lady who ruled over it. Though there is no love lost for Lady Blackmere, the noblewoman who allowed her town to be vulnerable to attack, and his fellow champions slain, Brandon is resolved to do the right thing. And when a beautiful barmaid looks at him with stars in her eyes, he feels like maybe he can be the hero she thinks he is.
