Series Report: Jonesy #1-3 by Sam Humphries

Jonesy is a super cute comic series about a teen girl with big hair, a bigger attitude, and super love powers! Basically, she can make anyone fall in love with anyone or anything. Except herself of course. And being a teenage girl who hates just about everything, Jonesy mostly does not use her powers for good, but for CHAOS! Yes, caps-lock CHAOS, not regular chaos.

The art style reminds me a lot of the Power Puff Girls, but even more colorful and vibrant. That was the main draw for me, but I also just like magical girls. And CHAOS! Jonesy is just a fun series to look at.

The plots are quite over-the-top and CHAOTIC! Jonesy isn’t the most likeable person, but that’s something she works on over the course of the series. She starts out using her powers as a kind of revenge on those who have wronged her, or just for laughs. Then moves on to using them for her own gain, with disastrous results. And ultimately realizing that she can do good with them.

Jonesy is a self-described “cool dork” who spends her time making zines nobody reads, watching anime, and listening to riot grrrl bands and 1D simultaneously. But she has a secret nobody knows. She has the power to make people fall in love! Anyone. With anything. There’s only one catch—it doesn’t work on herself. She’s gonna have to find love the old-fashioned way, and in the meantime, figure out how to distract herself from the real emotions she inevitably has to face when her powers go wrong.
