Series Report: Happy Ever Regency #1-6 by Bree Wolf

Happy Ever Regency is a series of Historical Romances based on fairy tales! The source material for each book is obvious from the titles, but it’s not always obvious while reading. How to Wake a Sleeping Lady, How to Tame a Beastly Lord, and How to Turn a Frog Into a Prince are the three that have plots that more closely follow their fairy tales, but the others? Very, very loosely inspired. At least, that’s how it felt to me. I’m actually not even 100% sure upon finishing How to Climb a Lady’s Tower and How to Steal a Thief’s Heart if they really were the stories I thought they were.

I do enjoy these books and read them as they come out. They’re not outstanding or groundbreaking, but they’re quick and fun. There’s a nice mix of heroes and heroines and tropes. They all also are actually connected to each other. I’m sure you could read each one as a standalone, but each book is set up in the previous book. And they actually happen concurrently in some cases, so the ending of one book is happening at the same time as the beginning of the next book. It’s a nice recap if you’re not bingeing them.

The most recent novella is actually a prequel to the series. While it’s labeled as #6.5, it’s actually the story of how the very first couple, Grant and Agnes, got together.

A handsome earl and an old spinster make for an enticingly happily-ever-after.

Miss Agnes Bottombrook accepted long ago that she would never marry. Not even when she was still young did gentlemen see anything in her that would appeal to them. Now, at nine-and-twenty years of age, all hope is lost and Agnes is on the shelf for good.

Or isn’t she?

Out of nowhere, the rakishly handsome—and young, mind you!—Lord Wentford asks Agnes for a dance, shocking not only Agnes but all of London society, most of all, his own mother. Certain that his intentions are far from honorable, Agnes tries her utmost to rebuff the young lord and reveal him as a scoundrel, only seeking her attention to win a bet or wager of some kind.

Unfortunately, Lord Wentford cannot be rebuffed, no matter how hard Agnes tries, forcing her to contemplate the possibility—remote as it might be—that he might truly…care for her.

Or doesn’t he?

Without her consent, Agnes finds herself swept off her feet by her most unexpected suitor, doubting her own sanity when desires she thought she had long since abandoned resurface. But will she dare believe him?

Would she be a fool to do so…or rather not to do so?
