Everyone says humans are safe on Risda III.

Yeah, right.

I was taken from Earth years ago and I’ve learned one thing - a flawed human is a dead human. So I keep my flaws to myself, and I focus on running my farm.

At least, I try to. But when I (accidentally) burn the barn down, one of the local officials shows up to help me put it out. And when Khex learns my secrets, he decides that he’ll keep them…

If I’ll go out on a date with him.

Oh, this is going to end badly.

four-stars

When She’s Lonely is an adorable enemies-to-friends-to-lovers that’s low on the drama and has surprisingly normal relationship issues for an interspecies couple. Ashley is another human refugee on Risda III, and she’s struggling to get her farm started. She’s hard of hearing but doesn’t want anyone to know, so she pretends to be an airhead. Of course, this leaves her to figure things out on her own, which doesn’t go so well. Enter Khex, one of the port custodians. He’s frustrated with the seemingly dimwitted human, but he’s there to help.

I just adored how Ashley and Khex’s relationship developed. She’s not overly fond of him, but whenever she needs assistance she requests him because he speaks the loudest and clearest so she can understand him better than others. She also speaks louder than necessary and he feels like she’s always yelling at him, but once he actually spends some time with her he quickly realizes that she’s not loud and dumb, she just can’t hear. He confronts her about it and from there he’s much more understanding and sweet when he helps her out. They become friends, hang out, have fun, and of course develop feelings! Their only problem is that neither will admit to the other how they feel because Friend Zone, and Khek’s possibly getting a job transfer.

When She’s Lonely is just cute. Of course, there are sexytimes, because duh. But overall, it’s just super sweet. Ashley and Khex are a great match and I liked just how low key they were.
