Lady Iolanthe of Rockmourn Keep expects to be a spinster all her days. She is very tall. She is very poor. And she is thirty. What lord could possibly want her?

But then her father returns with news that he has found a bridegroom for her - one that is impressively tall. One that is strong, and bold, and wealthy. And best of all? He wants Iolanthe. It seems too good to be true.

And when Iolanthe gets her first look at her husband-to-be, she realizes why.

No one mentioned the 'orc' part of things...

four-stars

As much as I love those blue aliens on a secluded ice planet, this is probably my favorite Ruby Dixon series. The Half-Orc’s Maiden Bride is part of the Aspect and Anchor world, but is more of a side story. It’s not about the badly behaving gods and their human anchors. This is the story of Lady Iolanthe, who is tall and broad and feels ugly, especially when she’s the last of her sisters to be wed. Her father finally finds her a husband, but he’s an orc! Thankfully for Iolanthe, Agakor is kind and pretty sexy, not just rich and bloodthirsty.

I really enjoyed The Half-Orc’s Maiden Bride. It was surprisingly sweet for this series, since there’s normally more tension and sinning and danger and all that jazz. That doesn’t make it any less though. It’s a great read and I adored Iolanthe and Agakor. She’s smart and brave and isn’t some wilting flower. Did she imagine marrying an orc? No, but she sees that he’s a good person and he treats her right. Agakor just wanted a human bride to legitimize his hold on this new keep, but he wasn’t expecting someone to fall in love with. It was also fun to get all of the different wedding traditions from this world!
